RESUME TIPS

"Your
aspirations are your possibilities. "

Our advice is:
-
Keep your audience in mind. What would
the hiring manager need and want to know about you in order to make a first pass
decision?
-
Remember you are SELLING yourself, this
is a marketing document, and as such, you need features and benefits, achievements,
capabilities. Not activities.
-
Quantify wherever possible.
-
Describe the “so what”, why what you
did made a difference to the organization.
-
Delete the extraneous, redundant, and
overly wordy. Examples: “I was recruited in to” should be “Responsible for”, or
better yet, “I achieved”.
-
Be careful in your use of acronyms. Generally,
if its in common usage beyond your own department, fine, if not, spell it out once.
If a highly technical resume, give the ordinary reader the basic coordinates of
which galaxy you are roaming in within the Objective or Summary. This helps the
clerk or coordinator to put you in the right pile.
-
Get a paperback copy of the Elements
of Style, by Strunk & White, and use it.
Proof and proof again. Have
a friend proof it.
